SU Tour Part #2

Hi, I am back! Here is more eye candy. I hope you enjoyed the last post. The photo below is something I've wanted to do in my living room. We have a sixteen foot high walls and I think this would be great way to draw the eye up and display some family photos.

This is a staged child's room, the flowers on the walls are die cut paper flowers from SU's catalog.

Here is a close up of the wall and lampshade. The lampshade uses die cut paper flowers like the wall.
More die cut flowers, the possibilities are endless.

There is still more and I can't wait to show it to you!

SU Tour Part #1

Hi everyone, I'm still here. Things have slowed down with our guest room. I am waiting on an important piece to come so I can start working on a major piece.

But, Don't worry I've got serious eye candy for you! Two days ago I went to the Stampin Up Home Offices in Riverton Ut for a visit. For those who don't know I am a StampinUp Demo, when you see the pics, you'll know why. These photos are from the Legacy Room. The Legacy Room shows the Stampin Up story as well as showcases some vignettes decorated with their products...So lets get started!

I can't get over how seamlessly SU incorporates paper with decor with vintage items. Don't you love those spoons, all antiques or vintage (I checked).

Chalk Board paint and the Ikea bins

Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Yesterday was the first day of kindergarten for our oldest son. He was brave, I was brave and no tears from either of us.

This weekend I went to Ikea with Meggan, we took my two oldest children and my baby stayed behind at Meggan's home with our husbands.

Grant was tall enough to go to Smaland and kendel was not...she was mad, but I think she liked the one on one time in the store.

I purchased a new bath mat, apple corer and these Slugis bins they were $6.99 ea . My hope was to use them as toy bins for my children.

So Lets Get Started!

I took a long piece of paper (18x16) and folded it in half. Then I drew (free hand) a half oval.

Then I folded the half oval in half again.

Next cut out the half oval and unfold it and you have a oblongish oval.


With repositionable tape adhere it to the bins and trace with a pencil. Next peel back the paper and make sure that none of the repositionable tape is on the bin.



Paint inside the lines (or outside in my case). This is the first coat, I did 2 coats. My job wasn't that great, but overall I was pretty happy with the results. Don't forget the prime the chalkboard surface with chalk a few days later. Also, I used Rust-oluem Specialty Chalkboard paint.

Quick Vanity Redo

Before

Today, I was cleaning my master bedroom. I thought I would give the vanity a quick makeover. Only using things from around my home.
So, I got rid of the college diploma and the random handled tray (that will be going on the etsy store).
After

I added some apothecary jars filled with french soaps and a book page wreath draped over the mirror. I should say the lamps and mirror are from my mother-in-law Becky. The lamps were for my birthday and the mirror was a Christmas gift...Thanks Becky!
The soaps in the smaller jar smell very nice, they are agrumes scented. The soaps in the larger jar are french laundry soap, I have few more and they stink! They serve more a decorative purpose.

Here's the window

Here is the window I purchased a few weeks ago on a road trip with my sisters. I brought it home and put the tissue paper and hardware on it, I wasn't in love with it so I revamped it.

Here is what I used:

Window: $13.50 antique store

Paper Scallops: Stampin' Up

Scallops: traced circles cut in half

Postcards: I put them in cello bags, taped the access bag back and place them on with repositionable tape. Repositionable tape comes off really easy.

Hardware: Screw eye hooks, make sure to get the right weight amount.

Chain: again check the weight amounts

Finial: Rod Works

Real or Not? Beadboard wallpaper

More from the guest room! In my guest room there is a ledge that follows under a window, it was pretty bare. I wanted to add beadboard wainscoting to it. In my craft room the prior owners installed beadboard, but not in this room. Easy fix right? Well I made it easier and I added beadboard wallpaper instead and it looks the same as the real stuff at a fraction of the price and work. Here it is before...

These are the tools I used. A sponge to wipe off the excess, seam glue for edges that came up, craft knife for cutting off the excess and a smoothing tool. Also not pictured we used a 28 quart plastic bin to hold the water.

This paintable wallpaper is from Lowe's and cost under $14.oo. The tools above didn't cost more then (minus the craft knife) $7.00.


Here is an up close shot of the wall pretty deceiving huh? I did not paint mine. It's pretty white so that was fine with me. Overall I am happy with it and would use it as an alternative to the real thing.

Guest Room...So Far and Meet Meggan

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend, I did. This is my more than lacking guest room. It has served as room for two of my husband's siblings and a place to hide mess when people come over. Our mantra, "oh, just put it in that room." This room deserves more, so I have decided that it will be getting a face lift this month. Here is the before!

Pretty Sad, huh? Random junk and bare white walls.

This was the bed I had as a teenager, it was white and then when I went to college I painted it black and that has been the color ever since. I was thinking that maybe I would spray it a creamy white or something what do you think?

This is Meggan and she is my best friend. We were in the same kindergarten class and became friends in Jr. High. Everyone needs a friend like Meggan she is honest, has great taste and is the sweetest person with children. She came over this weekend and helped me with painting and wallpapering. I think it was more, "I helped her" she does a good job.

After about four hours of painting this what the wall color looks like. The paint color is Cozy Cottage from Valspar. I bought it at Lowe's and I also got a mail in rebate for $5.00.

Opening Shop: Etsy Style

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! I show all my finds here on this little blog and what is a girl supposed to do with all this stuff? Open an Etsy store! Why? I need to pass on all this fun stuff to other people who the same weird infatuation like me. So an etsy store is in the works and coming soon. I am way excited and my husband is too. I promised him a ping pong table when we clear out the basement.

This month's project: Guest Bedroom

On Monday my brother-in-law Justin moved out our home to start school. He had been living with us since March. He was having a hard time finding a job where he's from and was able to find one up here where we live. It was sad to see him go, he is a really good kid and was easy to live with.

The guest room he was staying in was a hodge podge of college furniture. Back during that time I would pick up stuff for our apartment and spray paint it black. Well, I'm passed that stage and am ready for something bright and cheery. The plan is to do a stencil treatment on the wall and incorporate as many items from around my home, I don't want to spend more than $50.00 and that includes paint and a dresser.

Also, this room serves another purpose beside housing a weary traveler. This room needs to house antiques and collectibles I truly love and what a better way then this.

Finds from my mini road trip and a new camera charger

On Friday I received my new camera charger, the last one didn't make it back from Yellowstone. As promised, here are all my fun finds from my mini road trip with my sisters. I have been on the look out for a plain window like this one. I added the hardware and bought a finial. I thought that I would dress it up with some tissue paper scallops. I left it up there for a few days and needless to say,I wasn't that in love with it. It has had a makeover and I love it, I will show it to you another time.
These are the little things I got. A Silver pitcher for flowers, silver goblet, old door plate, chalk candle holders, and see the flowers now times that 60.
This mirror was only $17.00 already painted, I couldn't pass it up for my entry. The mirror that was there is going to go in my bathroom.



This is the wall above my baby's changing table. I found the yellow McCoy pot and saucer for a steal. My sister Maureen collects McCoy pot and saucers ( I hit the mother load of pot and saucers a week ago I will share soon). So I asked the worker of the antique store how much it was and it was a few dollars, I could tell my sister wanted it so I offered it to her twice and she said, "no" , hey I offered, but it has found great place in my daughter's nursery.

Coming Soon: Finds from a sister mini road trip

Recently my sisters and I went on a mini road trip. We went thrifting and antiquing into nothern Utah and Southern Idaho.

It reminded me of old times. When I was about 13 years old my older sister and I would go to yard sales, when we made it far enough north we would always say,"we made it this far lets go to Brigham City" when we got there, we would say the same thing about the next city and so on until one time we ended up in Pocatello via back roads nearly four hours from home.

Although this time we didn't make it that far (if we had my oldest sister would have gone mutinous) we still had a great time!

We went to great thrift stores and antique stores and I am way excited to share all the fun finds with you . Look for them this week!

$4.00 chairs and free paint

*Lets get some things straight: I do not take good photos I am hoping as time goes by my photos will be so great that you'll want to frame them and call them art, but til then we will all have to settle.

About a month ago I purchased these cobolt blue and hunter green chairs from a goodwill store. The chairs had great lines to them and at $4.00 a chair I could spare some money. Also that trip I purchased some vintage soda bottles (I'll show you those another time).

When I bought the chairs I decided to paint them white. I used high gloss white paint which I regret now, but the paint was given to me so why not. I wish I used a creamy white flat paint.

1) I lightly sanded the chairs

2) applied paint

3) dried

4) one is on the porch and the other one is computer chair!

Pretty Sad! It was rotated just fine where I had saved it, but it uploaded this way. Learning curve I guess.
